Nothing says summer fun like a milkshake contest, especially one that allows us to give back to the community. PDQ recently hosted Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay members involved in the Where Love Grows culinary summer camp. They worked in six teams to create a seasonal milkshake that had the chance to be chosen to be featured on the PDQ menu later this year.
We wanted to make the experience memorable so we called in WWE wrestlers Titus O'Neil and Sheamus, Tampa Bay times editor and columnist Ernest Hooper, local media personality Corey Dylan and PDQ co-founder Bob Basham to judge the contest. The kids did a great job of keeping their cool even though it was obvious they were excited to meet such big names in the Tampa Bay and worldwide scene.
The judges (who were supposed to only be tasting) had more than a little fun slurping down the tasty treats and the competition was stiff with some great ideas.
As contests go, we had to pick a winner and the award went to Stephanie Hamilton and Da'nae Turner for their fruity, out of the box concoction and stellar presentation. The shake, named “Mango Tango,” will be available later this year and proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.
We think all the kids are winners just for participating in both the contest and such a great initiative in their community. We enjoyed having such a vibrant bunch and can't wait to work with the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay in the future.
