In partnership with the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, nine Tampa Bay area PDQ restaurants will sell a special milkshake for the entire month of December created by three members of the club.
Proceeds from the sale of the milkshake, named Tango Berry Paradise, will be donated directly back to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.
The milkshake will be available at the following PDQ locations: Brandon, Carrollwood, Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Riverview, South Tampa, St. Petersburg, Tampa: Waters and Wesley Chapel.
The winning shake was created by Boys & Girls Club members Lovette Beasley, Stephanie Hamilton and Da'nae Turner, and features peach, strawberry and banana blended with tropical flavors.
“PDQ has been a partner to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and to the community at large for many years,” said Chris Letsos, President & CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. “They are a committed group of people dedicated to providing support to so many worthy organizations and we are incredibly grateful for the work that they have done and continue to do for us and our kids. Our Club Members were given this once in a lifetime experience with this shake contest and it is an opportunity that they will never forget. We are so thankful to the team at PDQ for helping us build Great Futures in Tampa Bay.”
On July 28, PDQ coordinated with the
Where Love Grows organization to host a milkshake contest with local Boys & Girls Clubs members. Club Members worked in teams of four to create a milkshake from a variety of ingredients. Each milkshake was taste tested and judged by the celebrity panel of Bob Basham, Co-Founder/Principal Owner of PDQ; Thaddeus “Titus” O’Neil, American Professional Wrestler and retired professional football player; Stephen “Sheamus O’Shaunessy” Farrelly, American Professional Wrestler; Corey Dylan, longtime radio personality; and Ernest Hooper, Editor and Columnist for the Tampa Bay Times. A total of 18 youth had the chance to tour the PDQ office and test kitchen, working with PDQ Executive Chef Michael Brannock on concept, flavor, and shake names.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay worked with Where Love Grows, another local nonprofit that has been addressing food insecurity in local Clubs through a summer Culinary Camp, to identify and work with youth from the Wilbert Davis Belmont Heights Boys & Girls Club for the contest.
"Where Love Grows is dedicated to combating childhood hunger through our monthly family dinner night events and mobile cooking class program,” said Vicki Anzalone, Founder of Where Love Grows. “We follow the motto "Feed a fish eat for a day, teach to fish eat for a lifetime. Working with the students of the Wilbert Davis Belmont Heights Boys & Girls Clubs this summer exceeded our expectations and validated our mission."
The contest will not only raise funds for local Clubs but also promote the organization’s 90th year of serving youth in the Tampa Bay area.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs have been changing lives for decades, and we are proud to partner with them to help raise funds and celebrate their anniversary,” said Bob Basham, PDQ Co-Founder/Principal Owner, and board member of the Boys & Girls Club Foundation. “The children created some amazing milkshakes and we are thrilled to offer the winning recipe to our guests in Tampa Bay this December.”
